January,
for me, is a chance to get back on track. My taste buds are easily
corrupted over the holidays, to the point where another candy or
home-made treat sounds better than some soup and salad. Between
Thanksgiving and Christmas, my appetite for healthy food is
compromised, but I'll eat it anyway, right after I have one more
goodie!
So, with the new year
comes new resolve. I was encouraged to read that
it's easier to start a new habit than to break an old one. So let's say
I'm not going to stop eating junk. I'm going to start eating healthy!
Again. Like I do every January. Because if I don't, I start paying for
the bad eating habits from over the holidays, and it's not a pretty
sight.
Now don't get discouraged
in the new year, if you suddenly deprive
yourself of the foods you were eating, but don't lose any of the weight
you may have gained. I've become convinced, over the years, that our
bodies are a bit like bank accounts, and if you keep them balanced, you
shouldn't have to worry. I've often found that I "get the bill" in
January, for all the holiday splurging, even if I've resumed a healthy
routine. But I stick with that routine, and my body eventually realizes
it's back on course.
So stick with your
resolutions in '08; reeducate those taste buds,
regain health and balance. Healthy New Year to all!
Verse of the Month
"He
who was seated on
the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write
this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." He said to me: "It
is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To
him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of
the water of life."
(REVELATION
21:5-6 NIV)
