By February, I've left most of my holiday habits
behind, and gotten back on track with a healthy diet. They say it takes
thirty days to establish a new habit, so by now I'm more firmly
entrenched in my new year's health regimen. But I ought to be able to
afford to splurge a bit, and what timing, with Valentine's Day right
around the corner. By February 14th, I'm ready for a treat, and it
better be worth it! I find it's hard to go wrong with a Chocolate Torte,
perhaps topped with some raspberry sauce; very romantic.
My 7th
grade home economics teacher suggested that, "The way to a man's heart
is through his stomach". A classroom of young girls giggled at the
thought, especially as it came from a funny old woman of rather portly
frame. To an audience of beautiful young ladies, she appeared to be no
expert on affairs of the heart, but her words had the ring of truth to
me. Through personal experience I've found that, indeed, a good meal
does seem to win a man's heart.
With February 7th marking my
husband's and my thirty-second anniversary, chocolate will be in order.
On that particular Thursday, I will be reminded once again of how young
people in love don't always think straight. At the time, February seemed
a fine time for a wedding. Never mind that there was a full-fledged,
Michigan-style snow storm that evening; the wedding went forward
regardless. Perhaps there was even a hint of genius in choosing that
date. The roses are much more affordable the week before Valentine's
Day!
The following chocolate torte can be simplified if you just
dust the torte with some powdered sugar; otherwise, working the frosting
into a smooth veneer can be challenging. But it is quite tasty. Top it
with the Raspberry Sauce, or even some ice cream, and you've got a treat
on your hands. Also included this month: An easy recipe for Sesame
Noodles. Add chicken to make it a main dish. Either way, it's delicious!

Verse
of
the Month: "Love is
patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not
boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is
not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight
in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails...And now
these three remain: faith, hope and
love. But the greatest of these is love."
